O’Neill & Co. Advises on Acquisition of Historic St. David’s Castle, Naas

As part of Kildare County Council’s commitment to heritage-led regeneration, St. David’s Castle, Naas, has been acquired for public ownership. Working closely with Kildare County Council, O’Neill & Co. provided strategic property advice throughout the acquisition process, helping to make this long-standing community goal a reality.

This marks a pivotal moment in the regeneration of Naas and guarantees that one of Ireland’s oldest surviving castles – with a history stretching back more than 800 years – will be preserved for future generations.

“We are delighted to have supported Pamela Pender and her team in Kildare County Council in securing St. David’s Castle,” said Darac O’Neill, Managing Director of O’Neill & Co. “This project represents not only the preservation of a unique heritage site but also an investment in the town’s cultural and social future. We acknowledge the importance of this project and are pleased to have supported such a significant milestone for Naas and County Kildare.”

Believed to date back to the 12th century, St. David’s Castle has long been recognised as the centrepiece of Naas’s historic core. Its acquisition underlines Kildare County Council’s commitment to urban regeneration and heritage-led development, while providing the community with a focal point of civic pride.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to preserve the jewel in Naas’s crown,” added Darac. “With public ownership now secured, the Castle can be sensitively restored and made part of the town’s vibrant future.”
